Welcome to Crossings

My attempt to write a great sci fi series... based on guys I work with. Most series don't involve potato chip factorys as locations but oh well here we go.

Episode Two , Part Four.

THEY REACH the PRISONERS.

The ARCADIAN AUXILLIARIES are among them.

MURRAY

Who’s in charge here?

SERGEANT AT ARMS

I am.

DAVE RECOGNISES the SERGEANT AT ARMS.

DAVE

Fletcher?

The SERGEANT’S FACE TURNS to DAVE.

A WHITE FLASH.

CUT TO.

14. INT. ORION PARLIAMENT BUILDING. DAY.

WHITE FLASH. It is a FLASHBACK SCENE. The SCENE looks BLEACHED OUT.

The SERGEANTS HEAD turns IN THE SAME WAY it does in the OTHER SCENE. He LOOKS SLIGHTLY YOUNGER and HAPPIER. HIS UNIFORM appears to BE OF A NICER QUALITY.

The INTERIOR of the PARLIAMENT BUILDING is MADE of WOOD PANELLING and WALLS that APPEAR to be MADE of BLUE CRYSTAL. In PLACES the SUNLIGHT SHINES through the CRYSTAL WALLS casting BLUE LIGHT PANELS on the FLOOR.

PEOPLE wearing VARIOUS MONK-LIKE ROBES and MEDIEVAL DRESS walk PAST.

DAVE

So what am I going to do without the best Sergeant at Arms in all the land?

FLETCHER

I don’t know. Obviously you’ll have to come up with a different way to make yourself look good.

DAVE

That’s funny, very funny.

Seriously, aren’t you going to miss all this fun?

FLETCHER

What? Hobnobbing around with the elite?

All of these buildings like tiny pieces shards of heaven.

Yeah I’ll miss it.

But it was never me.

You know that.

You were born to it. To this life.

I wasn’t.

DAVE

Doesn’t mean I feel part of the elite.

They start to WALK down a CORRIDOR in the BUILDING.

FLETCHER

Well you never were one for meditation and self reflection.

DAVE

I’ve seen too much in the service of my kingdom. And I get bored really easily.

Its okay for some. But I’m not sure whether this is the way God wants us to seek perfection.

To isolate ourselves from the people and put ourselves in ivory towers soaring above the ground.

Do spiritual pursuits really need to take place separate from everyone else?

Like the ordinary people are going to contaminate us.

I’m not sure what I think about the whole subject of God either.

FLETCHER

A member of the Royal Court expressing doubts, who as ever heard of such a thing.

DAVE

Okay, okay, old man.

Knock it off.

FLETCHER

Whatever you say, you’re the boss.

THEY sit DOWN on A BENCH NEXT to A CRYSTAL WALL.

DAVE

Okay, what have we got for your last day.

FLETCHER brings out A COMMUNICATIONS DEVICE. It obviously SERVES as a COMPUTER as well.

FLETCHER

The lovely people at the office of the Seneschal would like us to investigate unconfirmed rumours of somebody poisoning the food of the Byzantine order.

DAVE

Oh, that’s a must! Some kids will probably have put some salt in their gruel again. I can’t stand ascetics. What else?

FLETCHER

We’re to make sure that the trouble we had in the Grecian quarter last night doesn’t reoccur.

DAVE

That was a wedding party that got out of hand.

The way the Seneschal’s been talking you’d think it was a full blown riot.

We’ll go down there and rouse them from their slumbers.

That should be enough to get them to be a little more careful next time.

FLETCHER

And finally we’re to check the security on Brother Aidan’s pet project, yet again!

DAVE

The Liberation Chambers? I don’t know about you but I’m not feeling very liberated by their existence at the moment.

I just feel annoyed that they drag me down to the catacombs again and again.

Are you really sure you don’t want to rethink that transfer you’ve put in for.

FLETCHER

No thank you. I’m going home. Back to the hill country. Time for some quiet days before my inevitable retirement.

I can’t see you staying here forever though.

DAVE

No you’re right. I was never one for Orion society. I only came back to spend some time with Athena. And when she’s wed I’ll be back out there at some far flung outpost shining the light of civilisation.

FLETCHER

What ever you say.

DAVE

Okay let’s get this day started.

Are you sure you’re not going to miss the guardhouse food?

FLETCHER laughs as they walk off down the CORRIDOR.

WHITE FLASH

CUT TO.

15. EXT. ARCADIAN INCURSION SITE. DAY.

MURRAY PULLS DAVE to ONE SIDE. TINKERBELL follows them. They talk QUIETLY.

MURRAY

You know this guy?

DAVE

He served with me when I was on detatchment to the parliamentary guard.

A good man.

From what I remember at least.

MURRAY

Well if he was in the Capitol when it all kicked off I wouldn’t count on your assessment of him being a good man still being true.

DAVE

He wasn’t. He’d transferred out to one of the hill country security units about three months earlier.

Which tells me where in Arcadia we are right now.

He shouldn’t give us any trouble

TINKERBELL

Are you suggesting we trust him.

DAVE

No. I’m just not sure its necessary to rake him over the coals.

Also, if I remember his service record right, I’m not sure interrogation would work.

MURRAY

Dave’s right. There’s no sense going in all guns blazing. Lets hang back. Talk to him first of all.

If that gets us nowhere we can always lean on him later on.

The WALK BACK to THE PRISONERS.

There are about FIVE PRISONERS, all Arcadian Auxiliaries.

FLETCHER STANDS as THEY APPROACH AGAIN.

FLETCHER

Lord Agricola.

DAVE

Come on fletch, you haven’t called me that since you first started working with me.

FLETCHER

That’s as maybe your Lordship, but things have changed quite a bit the last couple of years so I’m just going to stop short of familiarity for a while, sir.

DAVE

But its me, Fletch.

FLETCHER

I know, sir but that isn’t the reassuring thing it once was.

MURRAY

What do you mean?

FLETCHER ignores MURRAY and TALKS TO DAVE.

FLETCHER

Coming in with all this soldiers and vehicles isn’t helping your case, sir.

DAVE

What case?

FLETCHER

Just after you left, the Regents Council convened a special session of Parliament. The Regents Council then abolished Parliament and decreed that absolute power was now held in the office of the Crown and the Regents Council.

They convened the Council as the highest court in the land and proceedings against many of the most prominent citizens of the land.

You were at the top of their list and were declared a murderer and a traitor to the Crown and the People of Arcadia.

For the last two years there have been shoot to kill orders out on you.

And your friend here is considered to have corrupted you and spread sedition amongst the general population.

You are the greatest enemies of the new order.

And although a lot of what has happened over the last couple of years has been strange to say the least, I still don’t want to believe that my nation has changed that much.

So that makes me think that you’re a traitor and I can’t believe that either.

So tell me, my lord Agricola, if you aren’t a traitor, why have you come into Arcadia with a foreign army if not to undermine the true and proper government?

MURRAY pulls DAVE AWAY.

MURRAY

I’m sorry.

DAVE

About what?

MURRAY

How long did you serve with this man?

DAVE

Three years, why?

MURRAY

And did he trust you?

DAVE

You know the bonds of a warrior.

He trusted me with his life and I trusted him with mine.

MURRAY

And now he thinks you’re a traitor.

Dave, I’m just beginning to realise how much has changed in your dimension since you were last here.

DAVE

That wasn’t your fault.

MURRAY

Its my fault it took two years to get you back here.

DAVE

You did your best.

MURRAY

It looks like my best wasn’t good enough.

DAVE

We’re here.

MURRAY

Yeah but we’re getting nowhere with your old friend and compadre.

DAVE

I noticed. What do you suggest?

MURRAY

Follow my lead.

HE WALKS back over to FLETCHER.

MURRAY

Excuse me, Mr Fletcher?

Good to meet you. Look I know that I’m public enemy number one or two depending on how you’re ranking me and Dave over there.

I’m getting sidetracked.

We can tell you why Dave isn’t a traitor and why I’m not the end of some conspiracy theory. I’m no one armed man.

Not that you would understand that reference.

Yet again, getting sidetracked.

But I need to make sure this place is safe first.

Tell me what power generating system you’ve been using so that we can set up with out blowing us all up and we’ll tell you who you should be trusting.

Deal?

FLETCHER

Okay.

MURRAY

Great.

16. INT. MCC INTERROGATION ROOM. DAY

FLETCHER sits at A TABLE in a SPARTAN INTERROGATION ROOM. INADEQUATE FLOURESCENT LIGHTS give the room a COLD LOOK.

The WALLS have an INDUSTRIAL LOOK like the REST of the MCC. JENSEN, MURRAY and DAVE stand BEHIND ONE WAY GLASS in ANOTHER ROOM.

JENSEN

You really think this is a good idea?

MURRAY

It’s not like we had any choice.

We couldn’t bring the MCC through without the information he’s given us.

JENSEN

Why what would have happened?

MURRAY

I thought they’d be using a Crimson Guard unit to power everything. it’s a high spec unit that our technology wouldn’t have reacted badly with.

JENSEN

And they were using?

MURRAY

A basic generator used for powering basic land vehicles.

JENSEN

A car battery?

MURRAY

Basically the Arcadian equivalent.

Obviously much more sophisticated.

But not what I would expect them to be using.

JENSEN

And if we’d come through without knowing that?

MURRAY

The word Hiroshima mean anything to you.

JENSEN

So that may explain why they were using this…

MURRAY

Power source? So that even if we defeated their goons we’d be blown off the face of the planet. It did occur to me, yes.

JENSEN

So are we safe now?

MURRAY

The MCC came through the Incursion perfectly and Caspar did a good job on the signals and I managed to adapt our technology so that it wouldn’t cause a critical outcome.

JENSEN

So what did we have to give Sergeant at Arms Fletcher for this information.

DAVE

We have to tell him everything we know about why Arcadia is such a mess.

JENSEN

Is this a good idea? Knowing what the Liberation chambers appear to do to people.

DAVE

If we’re going to stop an attack on Earth every time an incursion is established, we’re going to need allies here. And I trust this man. I served with him for three years. Broke bread with him, bled with him. He doesn’t seem any different.

MURRAY

And it appears that in the last two years Dave and I have been turned into national hate figures by the upper echelons of Arcadian society. It would be a good idea to try and get the word out that we’re not baby killing maniacs.

JENSEN

Okay, I hope you know what you’re doing.

MURRAY

So do I.

JENSEN

Not filling me with confidence, Cal.

MURRAY

I’m not filling you with confidence?

Imagine how I make myself feel.

DAVE and MURRAY walk THROUGH A DOOR and into the INTERROGATION ROOM.

Episode Two, Part Three

11. EXT. ARCADIAN INCURSION SITE. DAY.

The CAMERA TRACKS DOWN from the JETS and FLYING MACHINES ENGAGED in DOG FIGHTING in the SKY towards the GROUND. The ARCADIAN ARMOURED GROUND VEHICLES drive TOWARDS THE INCURSION. They PULL UP NEAR the ARCADIAN AUXILLARY UNIT.

A CRIMSON GUARD TECHKNIGHT steps OUT of the FIRST GROUND VEHICLE. He is EXTREMELY TALL. His FACE is COVERED by A METAL GAS/PROTECTIVE MASK. He WEARS A LARGE RED CLOAK.

THE OTHER CRIMSON GUARD TECHKNIGHTS get OUT of their VEHICLES, there are about 50 of them. and TAKE POSITIONS alongside the AUXILLARY UNIT.

The LEADING TECHKNIGHT WALKS TOWARDS THE SERGEANT AT ARMS.

SERGEANT AT ARMS

Homage and Fealty.

TECHKNIGHT

Homage and Fealty.

Report. Sergeant.

SERGEANT AT ARMS

Earth flying vehicles and a figure using Techwings came through the veil approximately 5 minutes ago.

TECHKNIGHT

Do I look like an idiot to you?

Do I look like some dirt poor barbarian?

SERGEANT AT ARMS

No, my lord.

TECHKNIGHT

Then do not speak to me as such.

Of course I can see that Earth flying vehicles have come through the veil. Our forces are engaging as we speak. Everyone here can see them.

You speak words of respect but your bearing speaks of insolence.

You need a lesson in humility.

TECHKNIGHT

When I ask for a report, you will tell me things that I do not yet know. Not state the obvious like some mewling infant.

And when you speak to me you will kneel before me.

He FORCES THE SERGEANT AT ARMS to the GROUND. He RAISES HIS WEAPON above his HEAD. It is A FEARSOME LOOKING MACE.

A SHOT RINGS OUT.

The MACE falls from THE TECHKNIGHTS HAND. He SCREAMS and CLUTCHES his HAND. BLOOD STARTS to DRIP from A LARGE WOUND. One so BAD that his HAND will probably NEVER WORK AGAIN.

THE camera FLICKS UP to the INCURSION.

CHERNENKO and DAVE STAND ON A ROCKY OUTCROPPING. The OTHER COMMANDOES occupy SNIPER POSTURES BEHIND ROCKS.

MORE COMMANDOS keep COMING THROUGH THE INCURSION.

DAVE

Nice Shot!

CHERNENKO

Really?

DAVE

Absolutely. I would have gone for the head though.

CHERNENKO

But this way was more dramatic.

And that scream of his was worth it. You don’t get that with a head shot.

DAVE

That’s a good point.

Vasily. Look I know this particular vantage point is fantastic for shooting someone and then they wonder where the shot came from and they see us. And its all so epic.

CHERNENKO

Precisely, my friend.

DAVE

We’re also totally exposed.

A LASER HITS the ROCKS in front of them.

CHERNENKO

That’s a very good point.

THEY JUMP BACK BEHIND THE ROCKS.

The COMMANDOS START TO RETURN FIRE.

CHERNENKO is LAUGHING.

CHERNENKO

Its gets the blood pumping doesn’t it?

DAVE

You’re insane!

My first steps on the ground of Arcadia in 2 years and you nearly get me killed within the first five minutes.

CHERNENKO

You’d be bored otherwise.

DAVE

Probably

THEY turn round and LOOK BETWEEN GAPS in the ROCKS.

CHERNENKO

What do you reckon? 5 minutes?

DAVE

To take them all?

That sounds about right.

CHERNENKO

After you.

DAVE pulls HIMSELF up from BEHIND the ROCKS. CHERNENKO follows HIM.

Some of the COMMANDOS make their WAY down the HILL AFTER THEM. OTHERS remain behind to GIVE COVER. Their SHOTS START to FIND THEIR MARK. TECHKNIGHTS are PITCHED BACKWARDS by the POWER of the SHOTS.

CUT TO.

12. EXT. ARCADIAN SKIES. DAY

EFFECTS SHOT. THE DOGFIGHTS are VICIOUS as WE FOCUS on the MAIN CHARACTERS JETS, WE see DOGFIGHTS going on behind them.

TINKERBELL DIVES towards the GROUND. A FLYING MACHINE follows HER.

TINKERBELL

Time to lead you a pretty dance.

SHE LEVELS out when she REACHES the GROUND and FLIES JUST ABOVE the GROUND.

The CAMERA FLICKS to PLAYBOY’S JET.

He is PURSUED by TWO FLYING MACHINES. He TRIES to LOSE THEM through ACROBACTICS INDULGING in BARREL ROLLS and EVASIVE MANOUVERES.

PLAYBOY

Guys, Guys. Why are you fighting over me?

You know you’re not going to win.

I’m just too good.

I can take on two of you at a time.

Three if I need too.

He CUTS POWER and THEY FLY PAST HIM.

HE BLASTS THEM OUT of the SKY.

ANOTHER FLYING MACHINE gets on his TAIL.

PLAYBOY

Aww! Crap.

VALKYRIE’S JET SUDDENLY gets on THE FLYING MACHINES TAIL.

VALKYRIE

How many times have got to tell you?

Pride comes before a fall.

PLAYBOY

So why don’t you just leave me to my fate.

VALKYRIE

Paperwork’s a pain in the neck.

PLAYBOY

Whatever, I know you want me, my Viking goddess.

VALKYRIE

Keep dreaming, playboy, keep dreaming.

PLAYBOY

I’ll take that under advisement.

The FLYING MACHINES AROUND THEM have all BEEN DESTROYED.

PLAYBOY

Is that it?

That fight barely got going.

VALKYRIE

I’ve still got one on my radar.

TINKERBELL

I’ve got him.

TINKERBELL is STILL FLYING LOW just above the GROUND. The FLYING MACHINE is RIGHT ON HER TAIL. THEY ENTER a FOREST.

THE CAMERA follows TINKERBELL’S POINT OF VIEW. We SEE TREES flick PAST INCREDIBLY QUICKLY.

VALKYRIE

Nadia, what the hell are you doing?

You should have put him away before now.

TINKERBELL

I’ve got other ideas.

PLAYBOY

Tink, if just one of those trees hits you…

TINKERBELL

I’m perfectly aware of that, thanks Jack.

PLAYBOY

Then why are you…?

TINKERBELL

I’m securing the area.

Got the lay of the land when I was up there earlier.

Have a look at what’s just beyond these trees.

The CAMERA CUTS to VALKYRIE AND PLAYBOY’S POINT OF VIEW.

THE FORTRESS is JUST BEYOND THE TREES.

THE CAMERA CUTS back to TINKERBELL.

TINKERBELL

They can’t pull up as quickly as I can.

They’ll fly straight into the fortress.

PLAYBOY

You pull up at that speed you’ll break your neck.

TINKERBELL

You’re forgetting about the energy shield that my wings generate.

VALKYRIE

Even taking that into account, if the power core on those flying machines goes up you’ll never clear the blast radius in time.

TINKERBELL

I’ll clear it.

I have to.

SHE LEAVES the FOREST and HEADS STRAIGHT for the FORTRESS WALL. THE FLYING MACHINE follows HER. She PULLS UP and HEADS STRAIGHT UPWARDS.

The FLYING MACHINE FLIES straight into the WALL.

It EXPLODES. The EXPLOSION is MASSIVE. It DESTROYS the FORTRESS. We DON’T SEE whether TINKERBELL SURVIVED.

CUT TO.

13. EXT. ARCADIAN INCURSION SITE. DAY.

The COMMANDOES and THE CRIMSON GUARD are NOW ENGAGED at CLOSE QUARTERS with EACH OTHER.

DAVE is USING HIS AXE LIBERALLY. He CUTS DOWN CRIMSON GUARD LEFT, RIGHT and CENTRE.

CHERNENKO is ALTERNATING BETWEEN A SOVIET ERA RUSSIAN PISTOL and HIS “DAVEMADE” CROSSBOW. THEY both DISPOSE of the CRIMSON GUARD PROFESSIONALLY and METHODICALLY.

FINALLY all the CRIMSON GUARD LIE DEAD or INJURED except the LEADING TECHKNIGHT.

He is HIDING BEHIND A ROCK trying to USE A COMMUNICATIONS DEVICE.

TECHKNIGHT

Militia Control.

Do you hear me? Do you hear me?

DAVE

Hey, how’s it going?

DAVE and CHERNENKO are STOOD ON the ROCK ABOVE THE TECHKNIGHT.

THE TECHKNIGHT staggers BACK TOWARDS a ROCKY CRAG EDGE. He DRAWS his SWORD with HIS GOOD HAND. His HAND SHAKES.

TECHKNIGHT

Keep away from me!

Militia Control, do you hear me.

SUDDENLY we SEE THE EXPLOSION from the PREVIOUS SCENE HAPPEN on the HORIZON BEHIND THE TECHKNIGHTS HEAD.

CHERNENKO

If you’re thinking about reinforcements, my friend, I don’t think they are going to come for you.

DAVE

I’d agree. That’s a decent assumption.

So surrendering would be an extremely good idea right now.

The TECHKNIGHT STARTS to BACK TOWARDS THE CRAG EDGE.

CHERNENKO

What are you doing?

Come away from the edge.

DAVE

Surrendering is definitely the best course of action here. There is nothing dishonourable about being a prisoner of war.

CHERNENKO

He’s going.

TECHKNIGHT

Long Live the Order!

HE STEPS of the CRAG EDGE.

The CAMERA FOLLOWS HIM to the CRAG BOTTOM.

IT FLICKS BACK to DAVE and CHERNENKO LOOKING OVER THE CRAG EDGE.

DAVE

Well that gets us exactly nowhere.

CHERNENKO

I know. Its like he committed ritual suicide.

Like a Japanese Samurai.

DAVE

Well its not what the Crimson Guard did when I was a member, or for a thousand years before that.

We were always taught in our apprenticeship that there is no dishonour in being captured if you have fought to your greatest potential.

And you live to fight another day.

CHERNENKO

Maybe he wasn’t in possession of that particular memo.

TWO of the JETS come SCREAMING over and START to LAND VERTICALLY LIKE A HARRIER JUMPJET. Their PILOTS GET OUT, REMOVE THEIR HELMETS and start to WALK TOWARDS DAVE and CHERNENKO.

CHERNENKO

Nice Job, comrades.

You could see the explosion for miles.

VALKYRIE

It wasn’t us. It was Nadia.

DAVE

How did she do that she didn’t have any weapons that could do that kind of damage.

PLAYBOY

She flew straight at the fortress wall, pulled out and sent a flying machine straight into it. The power core blew.

DAVE

I’m amazed she managed to clear the blast in time.

VALKYRIE

We thought she hadn’t

TINKERBELL

They thought wrong.

TINKERBELL is HOVERING JUST ABOVE THEM.

She LANDS.

PLAYBOY

You’re insane.

TINKERBELL

Too crazy for you, Playboy?

PLAYBOY

Well I didn’t say that.

DAVE

You could have been killed.

It was a stupid risk to take.

TINKERBELL

Says the man with the berserker rages.

We needed that fortress destroyed right?

We needed to buy time to dig in before they bring the big guns.

I made a tactical decision.

DAVE

A stupid one.

Because now, we won’t have much time, the moment the fortress was destroyed it will have sent up red banners in Orion.

So the big guns will be here that much sooner.

Where’s the MCC.

VALKYRIE

They radioed through while you were still fighting.

They’re holding just inside the incursion until Murray and Caspar can get basic signals and power generation up and running.

CHERNENKO

I think we should signal them to send the dynamic duo through.

DAVE

Good Idea.

He ACTIVATES his RADIO.

DAVE

Colonel Jensen, this is Dave.

The area is secure can you please send through Lieutenant Colonel Murray and his irritating companion as quickly as possible.

JENSEN

(radio, distorted)

Received and understood.

There is SILENCE. VALKYRIE and PLAYBOY WALK OFF back towards their JETS.

DAVE, CHERNENKO and TINKERBELL walk towards the CRAGGY EDGE of the HILL and LOOK OUT into the DISTANCE PAST THE SMOKING REMAINS of the FORTRESS.

CHERNENKO

So how’s it feel to be back?

DAVE

Like the mountain we have to climb is one hundred times as worse as I thought it was going to be.

TINKERBELL

We’ve made a beginning though.

DAVE

If that. It might be the smallest first step in the beginning of the beginning, but I’m not sure its truly a beginning and as for the end, I don’t know whether we’ll ever see that.

THE INCURSION RIPPLES behind THEM.

They TURN TOWARDS IT.

The TIMBERWOLF comes CRASHING THROUGH IT. The TIMBERWOLF is AN ARMOURED JEEP-LIKE 4X4 VEHICLE which FUNCTIONS AS A MOBILE SCIENCE and SIGNALS HEADQUARTERS. It is ALSO A PHENOMENAL BATTLE UNIT. It HAS a GENERAL CREW OF 4 or 5. It is DRIVEN by MURRAY.

It COMES FLYING down the HILL from the INCURSION and THROWS ITSELF into a HANDBRAKE TURN RIGHT in FRONT OF THEM.

CASPAR JUMPS out.

CASPAR

I’m ready for them.

MURRAY STEPS out

MURRAY

Ready for who exactly?

CASPAR

The Crimson Guard.

MURRAY

Who are either dead or injured and in our custody.

CASPAR

Well I’m ready to interrogate them.

MURRAY POINTS at a CARGO COMPARTMENT on the BACK of the TIMBERWOLF.

MURRAY

You, signals, set-up, now.

CASPAR

But Cal.

MURRAY

Look at my face.

CASPAR

Okay.

He STARTS to GET COMPUTERS and GEAR out of the TIMBER WOLF, HE MUTTERS to HIMSELF. HE drops SOMETHING.

MURRAY

Eurgghh! Vasily can you please help him before he breaks something or himself.

CHERNENKO

Okay.

MURRAY

If you can possibly scare him into not whinging for a while with some old war stories that would be exceptional.

Dave, I need to talk to any of the enemy units who survived.

DAVE

Why?

MURRAY

I need to know what they’ve been using for power generation around here.

TINKERBELL

Why?

MURRAY

Because it’ll affect how we power anything we put up here as we dig in.

DAVE

Why?

MURRAY

Oh! Enough with the questions. Has the ability to say any other word but why been robbed from you.

Look, we know from our last time here and from my research that the Arcadian’s use a variety of different power sources, each one utilising a slightly different fuel and each one giving off a slightly different form of radiation.

DAVE

So why does that mean you need to talk to a prisoner?

MURRAY

I was getting to that. Keep control of yourself.

DAVE

Cal?

MURRAY

Sorry. We just don’t have much time.

The Power Units that myself and Jackson designed will operate under most circumstances but there are certain Arcadian power units that emit radiation that muck up the behaviour of the Power Units if we don’t know that they’re there.

TINKERBELL

What do you mean muck up?

MURRAY

An uncontrollable energy build up would occur within the power units until the fuel reaches a critical mass and explode.

So can I see one of the men we’ve captured.

Thankyou.

DAVE

They’re over here.

MURRAY takes A HANDHELD SCANNER out of his POCKET and starts SCANNING. THEY START WALKING towards where the PRISONERS are.

TINKERBELL

You seem annoyed.

MURRAY

I’m perfectly fine.

TINKERBELL

No you’re not.

Did you go anywhere after you left the control room and before you got to the hangar bay?

MURRAY

Might have.

DAVE

Where?

MURRAY

Caspar had incursion sickness so I took him to the infirmary.

TINKERBELL

And you had a nice conversation with the good doctor?

MURRAY

We exchanged words.

TINKERBELL

You have terrible timing, do you know that?

MURRAY

So I’ve been told.

TINKERBELL

You had two months before we launched to talk to her.

And you’ve been avoiding the infirmary like the plague. Now when we finally get into action you decide now would be a good time to discuss your messy relationship.

DAVE

I got to agree Cal, that was a stupid idea.

MURRAY

I don’t remember asking for your input.

DAVE

Whatever.

MURRAY

Lets just interrogate the prisoner.

And if I want your advice, I’ll ask for it.

Episode Two, Part Two. Welcome to Arcadia.

4. INT. FLIGHT BAY. DAY.

A SERIES of FIGHTER JETS are on a TARMAC SURFACE similar to AN AIRCRAFT CARRIER. At the END of the DECK is an OPEN DOOR. Through it we can see the inside of the INCURSION. It LOOKS WHITE. With STREAKS OF COLOUR FLASHING through it OCCASIONALLY.

TINKERBELL stands NEXT to A FIGHTER JET.

The FIGHTER JET has VALKYRIE’S CALLSIGN and NAME on it.

MECHANICS are REFUELLING VALKYRIE’S JET.

VALKYRIE is sat IN THE JETS COCKPIT.

TINKERBELL wears A SPECIAL PROTECTIVE FLIGHT SUIT and HELMET.

VALKYRIE

Nervous?

TINKERBELL

No,

Why do you ask Christina?

You getting the butterflies in your stomach that Caspar is always talking about?

VALKYRIE

Just wondering.

Its been a while since you’ve done this.

Are you still willing to throw yourself out of an MCC at 300 plus miles per hour?

Because I’ve heard things about your training runs back on Earth.

Heard you’ve lost your touch.

TINKERBELL SMILES.

TINKERBELL

You trying to get me in the zone, Christina?

VALKYRIE

Just seeing whether you’re still up to it.

We can’t be carrying you out there.

TINKERBELL

That’s true.

But who says you’ll be the one doing the carrying?

I hear its your skills that are getting rusty.

Some say you’ve lost your killer instinct.

But of course what can you expect from a countrywoman of ABBA

VALKYRIE

That’s a low blow.

TINKERBELL

You have no idea how low I can go.

I might even mention Pingu.

VALKYRIE

I used to love that show.

TINKERBELL

Me too.

Shows you Swedes are good at something.

The MECHANICS finish refuelling VALKYRIE’S JET.

VALKYRIE

Shouldn’t you have your wings by now?

TINKERBELL

You’d think so wouldn’t you.

Less than a minute to go and Jackson still hasn’t finished tinkering.

JACKSON comes RUNNING DOWN the RUNWAY.

TINKERBELL

Its about time.

Have you quite finished?

Is it all working?

JACKSON

Yes.

VALKYRIE

You thought you might have added a few extras while you’ve been obsessing over that thing.

JACKSON is HELPING TINKERBELL into her WINGS.

JACKSON

Such as?

VALKYRIE

I don’t know. Cupholder, fm radio, wi fi.

JACKSON

Funny, real funny. Chrissie.

You want me to remind you how long, on average, it takes to repair your jet after you’ve trashed it beyond all belief?

Last time it took 160 manhours.

Nearly a week to repair all the damage!

So if you can both bring your equipment back in one piece that would be most appreciated.

TINKERBELL

You’re such an old woman you know that?

A BUZZER sounds.

JACKSON

Right that’s it.

Good luck.

And remember there are laws of physics. You can’t defy them no matter how good a pair of pilots you are.

VALKYRIE

Yes mother.

JACKSON walks off towards the DOOR MUTTERING to himself.

JACKSON

Totally destroyed. Had to do a complete rebuild.

They take no care at all and I have to pick up the pieces.

Complete amateurs.

He WALKS out the DOOR.

VALKYRIE

This is it.

You ready to feel wind beneath your wings once more.

VALKYRIE puts her HELMET ON.

TINKERBELL

Can’t wait.

You sure you can keep up?

VALKYRIE

We’ll be right with you.

Right, Playboy?

PLAYBOY is VALKYRIES SECOND IN COMMAND. He is A TALL and MUSCULAR MAN in his MID TWENTIES. He is SAT in HIS COCKPIT.

PLAYBOY

With such lovely ladies as yourself to follow how could I be anywhere else?

TINKERBELL

Playboy, do you ever stop?

VALKYRIE

(laughing)

No. He really, really, doesn’t.

PLAYBOY

I have a duty to the women of the galaxy to bring some excitement into their life.

In the shape of me.

VALKYRIE

The only thing you bring into our lives is an incessant need to laugh at the size of your ego.

PLAYBOY

(smiles)

You say that now but one day…

TINKERBELL

We’ll be singing a different tune, we know.

PLAYBOY

I’ve said that before have I?

TINKERBELL

Once or twice.

FLIGHT CONTROL

(OVER PA AND RADIO)

All Ground Crew vacate Flight Bay One.

All fighters, prepare for Launch.

The RUNAWAY begins to BREAK IN HALF.

We can NOW see that ALL THE FIGHTERS and TINKERBELL are ATTACHED TO CRADLES that HOLD them in place.

The RUNAWAY has NOW COMPLETELY FOLDED AWAY.

THEY HANG ABOVE the WHITE EXPANSE of the INCURSION.

A SERIES of CLOSE-UPS of the TINKERBELL, VALKYRIE and the VARIOUS PILOTS as they wait for LAUNCH.

A RED LIGHT TURNS GREEN.

FLIGHT CONTROL

(PAs and Radio)

Launch!

The CRADLES RETRACT.

Each PILOT has A CLOSE UP and then LAUNCHES.

TINKERBELL is the LAST TO LAUNCH.

5. EXT. MOBILE COMMAND CENTRE. DAY

EFFECTS SHOT.

THE CAMERA TRACKS TINKERBELL as she LEAVES THE FIGHTER BAY and HURTLES THROUGH THE AIR with THE FIGHTERS.

6. EXT. ARCADIAN INCURSION SITE. DAY.

It is a BRIGHT SUNNY DAY. THE INCURSION hangs in the AIR in A VALLEY between two MOUNTAINS.

A SMALL UNIT of ARCADIAN AUXILLIARIES are on SENTRY DUTY in the area near the INCURSION.

ARCADIAN AUXILLIARIES look similar to THE TECHKNIGHTS from EARLIER but with LESS HIGH QUALITY ARMOUR and LESS TECH.

A SMALL CAMP is PITCHED behind them.

The UNITS COMMANDER, A SERGEANT AT ARMS is HOLDING A SMALL GOLD FRAMED MIRROR in his HAND.

He is TALKING INTO IT.

The FACE in the MIRROR is not HIS. The MIRROR is a COMMUNICATIONS DEVICE. HE is TALKING to MILITIA CONTROL at the NEAREST TECHKNIGHT FORTRESS.

SERGEANT AT ARMS

Everything looks quiet up here.

MILITIA CONTROL

Thankyou, Auxillary Unit 5.

Next check in in one hour.

SERGEANT AT ARMS

At your Command.

He FINISHES THE COMMUNICATION.

MAN AT ARMS

“At your command”

You don’t have to talk to them like that anymore.

SERGEANT AT ARMS

It’s the rules.

And our traditions are important.

MAN AT ARMS

Not any more they’re not.

You know everything’s changed.

They don’t care about the traditions anymore.

And I don’t know what we’re doing here.

SERGEANT AT ARMS

We’re doing our job.

Fulfilling the oath we swore.

MAN AT ARMS

What? Staying up here in all weathers for people who have lost all honour they ever had.

If the Crimson Guard want this place so badly they can up here and guard it.

And let us go home.

SERGEANT AT ARMS

Talk like that is treason.

You know that! You’ve never expressed any problems with the our assignment before What’s happened?

MAN AT ARMS

Mary isn’t waiting for me anymore.

And its all their fault.

SECOND MAN AT ARMS

What do you mean, your weddings in two weeks.

MAN AT ARMS

It was. That was before she was placed in a Liberation Chamber.

Now she doesn’t want anything to do with me. She’s moving to Orion with her Crimson Guard lover.

The lover who put her in the chamber after she’d turned down his attentions.

My mother said she screamed as she was placed in. And afterwards she looked down on my mother as if she was dirt.

And apparently its not Mary anymore.

It’s Laverna.

SERGEANT AT ARMS

Goddess of the Underworld?

MAN AT ARMS

They always take names like that after the chamber.

I talked to her and it was like talking to a stranger.

So you’ll excuse me if I’ve not that happy with our assignment at the moment.

And you know what the last two years have been like.

This isn’t the Arcadia we once.

SERGEANT AT ARMS

Okay. I’ll try to get you some furlough.

Just stop talking like that. I don’t want to see you executed.

MAN AT ARMS

If it heals a broken heart I’ll take it.

THE INCURSION starts to CRACKLE.

The SERGEANT AT ARMS ACTIVATES the MIRROR AGAIN. The OTHER AUXILIARIES get into a DEFENSIVE POSTURE.

SERGEANT AT ARMS

Militia Control, Militia Control.

This is Auxiliary 5.

MILITIA CONTROL

This is Militia Control.

Homage and Fealty.

SERGEANT

Homage and Fealty.

MILITIA CONTROL

Why have you contacted us so quickly after your last report?

SERGEANT AT ARMS

Activity beyond the Veil.

Its similar to the phenomenon that the Crimson Guard told us to be on the look out for.

A blue coloured discharge in the centre of the Veil.

MILITA CONTROL

Are you sure about that, Auxillary 5?

SERGEANT AT ARMS

Of course I’m sure. I would not have contacted you if I was not.

MILITIA CONTROL

Okay, stand by for orders.

The BLUE DISCHARGE in the INCURSION INCREASES.

SUDDENLY TINKERBELL and the JETS FLY OUT OF THE INCURSION.

SERGEANT AT ARMS

Control.

We need reinforcements.

Something has just come out of the veil.

MILITIA CONTROL

What are we dealing with.

SERGEANT AT ARMS

A figure with wings and a series of flying machines.

Should we engage?

MILITIA CONTROL

No. Just continue to report.

SERGEANT AT ARMS

At your command.

7. EXT. MILITIA FORTRESS. DAY

The MILITIA FORTRESS is a GREY CASTLE LIKE BUILDING WITH BATTLEMENTS.

A FANFARE SOUNDS. THE ARCADIAN EQUIVALENT OF AN ALARM.

A SERIES of CRIMSON GUARD can be SEEN RUNNING THROUGH THE FORTRESS TO AN UNDERGROUND HANGAR BAY. They get into FLYING MACHINES. These FLYING MACHINES DON’T LOOK LIKE EARTH PLANES. They RUN on ANTI-GRAVITY DRIVES. In DESIGN THEY REFLECT RENAISSANCE IDEAS OF FLYING MACHINES, such as DA VINCI’S HELICOPTER.

AUXILLARY and CRIMSON GUARD UNITS RUN to ARMOURED GROUND UNITS. They LOOK LIKE HORSE DRAWN CARRIAGES with NO HORSES. They DRIVE OFF THROUGH THE FORTRESSES PORTCULLIS.

A ANTI-GRAVITY LIFT LAUNCHES the FLYING MACHINES through the COURTYARD of the FORTRESS.

THEY FLY UP TOWARDS TINKERBELL and the JETS.

8. EXT. ARCADIAN SKIES. DAY.

EFFECTS SHOT.

TINKERBELL and THE JETS APPROACH THE FORTRESS.

THE ARCADIAN FLYING MACHINES FLY up to meet them.

VALKYRIE

Okay. This is it.

Get ready.

PLAYBOY

10-4, boss.

I was born ready!

TINKERBELL

Crimson Guard.

These guys aren’t going to go down easy.

VALKYRIE

We have to face them sometime.

Might as well get it over with.

Okay. Valkyrie to all fighters.

The moment we engage, break formation and fire at will.

Remember to watch each others back.

The FLYING MACHINES REACH them.

The JETS and TINKERBELL BREAK FORMATION.

VALKYRIE’S JET CLIMBS. PLAYBOY’S JET FLIES TO THE SIDE. TINKERBELL DIVES.

9. INT. MOBILE COMMAND CENTRE CONTROL ROOM. DAY.

The CAMERA follows JACKSON into the CONTROL ROOM.

JENSEN is STOOD in the CENTRE of the ROOM. EXTRAS are using the CONSOLES that OUR MAIN CHARACTERS used in the PREVIOUS SCENES.

JENSEN

Everything go well with Tinkerbell?

JACKSON

Yeah. I think I finally got those wings back to optimum status.

JENSEN

Great. Communications?

Are we receiving the fighter group loud and clear.

FEMALE COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

Yes sir. Some interference but nothing the system can’t handle. Better than we could have expected.

JENSEN

Acknowledged. Hotshot?

I thought we were already supposed to be out of the incursion.

HOTSHOT

(radio distorted)

So did I.

But less than a minute.

JENSEN

Dave? You have a go.

CUT TO

10. INT. MOBILE COMMAND CENTRE. DAY.

DAVE is WALKING through the HANGAR BAY PAST THE COMMANDOS. The COMMANDOS are LINED up IN TWO COLUMNS WAITING FOR THE GO SIGNAL.

DAVE

Its about time.

You get that Vasily? I’m finally going to set foot on the soil of my homeland once more.

CHERNENKO

Congratulations, my friend.

But I lets save the celebrations until we’ve actually get through this day.

DAVE

Agreed. But there’s nothing that can spoil this moment for me.

CASPAR and MURRAY have REACHED THE DOORWAY to the HANGAR BAY and are NOW FOLLOWING DAVE.

CASPAR

Dave, are you ready, big man.

Time to take back your homeland from the man!

DAVE puts his head in his hands.

DAVE

I didn’t imagine that voice?

CHERNENKO SHAKES his HEAD.

DAVE starts to MASSAGE his TEMPLES. SPEAKING as if in a MANTRA.

DAVE

Nothing can spoil this moment for me,

Nothing can spoil this moment for me,

Nothing can spoil this moment for me.

MURRAY

Don’t worry, he’s not going out there with you.

Once you gain a foothold we’re to go in with the second wave and start to set up signals. So you’ll be free to take out your vengeance on as many crimson guard as you want.

DAVE

Well, keep him out of my way.

MURRAY

We’ll be taking the Timber Wolf.

I’ll be driving. He’ll completely out of your way.

CASPAR and MURRAY WALK OFF down the HANGAR BAY and INTO A SIDE ROOM.

DAVE

I swear I will kill him one of these days.

A RED LIGHT goes GREEN.

The HANGAR BAY starts to open. WIND BLOWS into the HANGAR BAY.

DAVE

(shouting over the wind)

Okay. Major Chernenko, would you like to do the honours.

CHERNENKO

Thankyou, comrade.

Okay, my friends, you know what to do.

First wave, deploy.

The COMMANDOS start to MARCH OUT. They JUMP OUT of the MCC.

CHERNENKO

After you.

DAVE

Thankyou.

Let’s find out just what the hell went on two years ago.

He RUNS out the MCC.

CHERNENKO FOLLOWS HIM.
