Welcome to Crossings

My attempt to write a great sci fi series... based on guys I work with. Most series don't involve potato chip factorys as locations but oh well here we go.

Episode Two, Part Two. Welcome to Arcadia.

4. INT. FLIGHT BAY. DAY.

A SERIES of FIGHTER JETS are on a TARMAC SURFACE similar to AN AIRCRAFT CARRIER. At the END of the DECK is an OPEN DOOR. Through it we can see the inside of the INCURSION. It LOOKS WHITE. With STREAKS OF COLOUR FLASHING through it OCCASIONALLY.

TINKERBELL stands NEXT to A FIGHTER JET.

The FIGHTER JET has VALKYRIE’S CALLSIGN and NAME on it.

MECHANICS are REFUELLING VALKYRIE’S JET.

VALKYRIE is sat IN THE JETS COCKPIT.

TINKERBELL wears A SPECIAL PROTECTIVE FLIGHT SUIT and HELMET.

VALKYRIE

Nervous?

TINKERBELL

No,

Why do you ask Christina?

You getting the butterflies in your stomach that Caspar is always talking about?

VALKYRIE

Just wondering.

Its been a while since you’ve done this.

Are you still willing to throw yourself out of an MCC at 300 plus miles per hour?

Because I’ve heard things about your training runs back on Earth.

Heard you’ve lost your touch.

TINKERBELL SMILES.

TINKERBELL

You trying to get me in the zone, Christina?

VALKYRIE

Just seeing whether you’re still up to it.

We can’t be carrying you out there.

TINKERBELL

That’s true.

But who says you’ll be the one doing the carrying?

I hear its your skills that are getting rusty.

Some say you’ve lost your killer instinct.

But of course what can you expect from a countrywoman of ABBA

VALKYRIE

That’s a low blow.

TINKERBELL

You have no idea how low I can go.

I might even mention Pingu.

VALKYRIE

I used to love that show.

TINKERBELL

Me too.

Shows you Swedes are good at something.

The MECHANICS finish refuelling VALKYRIE’S JET.

VALKYRIE

Shouldn’t you have your wings by now?

TINKERBELL

You’d think so wouldn’t you.

Less than a minute to go and Jackson still hasn’t finished tinkering.

JACKSON comes RUNNING DOWN the RUNWAY.

TINKERBELL

Its about time.

Have you quite finished?

Is it all working?

JACKSON

Yes.

VALKYRIE

You thought you might have added a few extras while you’ve been obsessing over that thing.

JACKSON is HELPING TINKERBELL into her WINGS.

JACKSON

Such as?

VALKYRIE

I don’t know. Cupholder, fm radio, wi fi.

JACKSON

Funny, real funny. Chrissie.

You want me to remind you how long, on average, it takes to repair your jet after you’ve trashed it beyond all belief?

Last time it took 160 manhours.

Nearly a week to repair all the damage!

So if you can both bring your equipment back in one piece that would be most appreciated.

TINKERBELL

You’re such an old woman you know that?

A BUZZER sounds.

JACKSON

Right that’s it.

Good luck.

And remember there are laws of physics. You can’t defy them no matter how good a pair of pilots you are.

VALKYRIE

Yes mother.

JACKSON walks off towards the DOOR MUTTERING to himself.

JACKSON

Totally destroyed. Had to do a complete rebuild.

They take no care at all and I have to pick up the pieces.

Complete amateurs.

He WALKS out the DOOR.

VALKYRIE

This is it.

You ready to feel wind beneath your wings once more.

VALKYRIE puts her HELMET ON.

TINKERBELL

Can’t wait.

You sure you can keep up?

VALKYRIE

We’ll be right with you.

Right, Playboy?

PLAYBOY is VALKYRIES SECOND IN COMMAND. He is A TALL and MUSCULAR MAN in his MID TWENTIES. He is SAT in HIS COCKPIT.

PLAYBOY

With such lovely ladies as yourself to follow how could I be anywhere else?

TINKERBELL

Playboy, do you ever stop?

VALKYRIE

(laughing)

No. He really, really, doesn’t.

PLAYBOY

I have a duty to the women of the galaxy to bring some excitement into their life.

In the shape of me.

VALKYRIE

The only thing you bring into our lives is an incessant need to laugh at the size of your ego.

PLAYBOY

(smiles)

You say that now but one day…

TINKERBELL

We’ll be singing a different tune, we know.

PLAYBOY

I’ve said that before have I?

TINKERBELL

Once or twice.

FLIGHT CONTROL

(OVER PA AND RADIO)

All Ground Crew vacate Flight Bay One.

All fighters, prepare for Launch.

The RUNAWAY begins to BREAK IN HALF.

We can NOW see that ALL THE FIGHTERS and TINKERBELL are ATTACHED TO CRADLES that HOLD them in place.

The RUNAWAY has NOW COMPLETELY FOLDED AWAY.

THEY HANG ABOVE the WHITE EXPANSE of the INCURSION.

A SERIES of CLOSE-UPS of the TINKERBELL, VALKYRIE and the VARIOUS PILOTS as they wait for LAUNCH.

A RED LIGHT TURNS GREEN.

FLIGHT CONTROL

(PAs and Radio)

Launch!

The CRADLES RETRACT.

Each PILOT has A CLOSE UP and then LAUNCHES.

TINKERBELL is the LAST TO LAUNCH.

5. EXT. MOBILE COMMAND CENTRE. DAY

EFFECTS SHOT.

THE CAMERA TRACKS TINKERBELL as she LEAVES THE FIGHTER BAY and HURTLES THROUGH THE AIR with THE FIGHTERS.

6. EXT. ARCADIAN INCURSION SITE. DAY.

It is a BRIGHT SUNNY DAY. THE INCURSION hangs in the AIR in A VALLEY between two MOUNTAINS.

A SMALL UNIT of ARCADIAN AUXILLIARIES are on SENTRY DUTY in the area near the INCURSION.

ARCADIAN AUXILLIARIES look similar to THE TECHKNIGHTS from EARLIER but with LESS HIGH QUALITY ARMOUR and LESS TECH.

A SMALL CAMP is PITCHED behind them.

The UNITS COMMANDER, A SERGEANT AT ARMS is HOLDING A SMALL GOLD FRAMED MIRROR in his HAND.

He is TALKING INTO IT.

The FACE in the MIRROR is not HIS. The MIRROR is a COMMUNICATIONS DEVICE. HE is TALKING to MILITIA CONTROL at the NEAREST TECHKNIGHT FORTRESS.

SERGEANT AT ARMS

Everything looks quiet up here.

MILITIA CONTROL

Thankyou, Auxillary Unit 5.

Next check in in one hour.

SERGEANT AT ARMS

At your Command.

He FINISHES THE COMMUNICATION.

MAN AT ARMS

“At your command”

You don’t have to talk to them like that anymore.

SERGEANT AT ARMS

It’s the rules.

And our traditions are important.

MAN AT ARMS

Not any more they’re not.

You know everything’s changed.

They don’t care about the traditions anymore.

And I don’t know what we’re doing here.

SERGEANT AT ARMS

We’re doing our job.

Fulfilling the oath we swore.

MAN AT ARMS

What? Staying up here in all weathers for people who have lost all honour they ever had.

If the Crimson Guard want this place so badly they can up here and guard it.

And let us go home.

SERGEANT AT ARMS

Talk like that is treason.

You know that! You’ve never expressed any problems with the our assignment before What’s happened?

MAN AT ARMS

Mary isn’t waiting for me anymore.

And its all their fault.

SECOND MAN AT ARMS

What do you mean, your weddings in two weeks.

MAN AT ARMS

It was. That was before she was placed in a Liberation Chamber.

Now she doesn’t want anything to do with me. She’s moving to Orion with her Crimson Guard lover.

The lover who put her in the chamber after she’d turned down his attentions.

My mother said she screamed as she was placed in. And afterwards she looked down on my mother as if she was dirt.

And apparently its not Mary anymore.

It’s Laverna.

SERGEANT AT ARMS

Goddess of the Underworld?

MAN AT ARMS

They always take names like that after the chamber.

I talked to her and it was like talking to a stranger.

So you’ll excuse me if I’ve not that happy with our assignment at the moment.

And you know what the last two years have been like.

This isn’t the Arcadia we once.

SERGEANT AT ARMS

Okay. I’ll try to get you some furlough.

Just stop talking like that. I don’t want to see you executed.

MAN AT ARMS

If it heals a broken heart I’ll take it.

THE INCURSION starts to CRACKLE.

The SERGEANT AT ARMS ACTIVATES the MIRROR AGAIN. The OTHER AUXILIARIES get into a DEFENSIVE POSTURE.

SERGEANT AT ARMS

Militia Control, Militia Control.

This is Auxiliary 5.

MILITIA CONTROL

This is Militia Control.

Homage and Fealty.

SERGEANT

Homage and Fealty.

MILITIA CONTROL

Why have you contacted us so quickly after your last report?

SERGEANT AT ARMS

Activity beyond the Veil.

Its similar to the phenomenon that the Crimson Guard told us to be on the look out for.

A blue coloured discharge in the centre of the Veil.

MILITA CONTROL

Are you sure about that, Auxillary 5?

SERGEANT AT ARMS

Of course I’m sure. I would not have contacted you if I was not.

MILITIA CONTROL

Okay, stand by for orders.

The BLUE DISCHARGE in the INCURSION INCREASES.

SUDDENLY TINKERBELL and the JETS FLY OUT OF THE INCURSION.

SERGEANT AT ARMS

Control.

We need reinforcements.

Something has just come out of the veil.

MILITIA CONTROL

What are we dealing with.

SERGEANT AT ARMS

A figure with wings and a series of flying machines.

Should we engage?

MILITIA CONTROL

No. Just continue to report.

SERGEANT AT ARMS

At your command.

7. EXT. MILITIA FORTRESS. DAY

The MILITIA FORTRESS is a GREY CASTLE LIKE BUILDING WITH BATTLEMENTS.

A FANFARE SOUNDS. THE ARCADIAN EQUIVALENT OF AN ALARM.

A SERIES of CRIMSON GUARD can be SEEN RUNNING THROUGH THE FORTRESS TO AN UNDERGROUND HANGAR BAY. They get into FLYING MACHINES. These FLYING MACHINES DON’T LOOK LIKE EARTH PLANES. They RUN on ANTI-GRAVITY DRIVES. In DESIGN THEY REFLECT RENAISSANCE IDEAS OF FLYING MACHINES, such as DA VINCI’S HELICOPTER.

AUXILLARY and CRIMSON GUARD UNITS RUN to ARMOURED GROUND UNITS. They LOOK LIKE HORSE DRAWN CARRIAGES with NO HORSES. They DRIVE OFF THROUGH THE FORTRESSES PORTCULLIS.

A ANTI-GRAVITY LIFT LAUNCHES the FLYING MACHINES through the COURTYARD of the FORTRESS.

THEY FLY UP TOWARDS TINKERBELL and the JETS.

8. EXT. ARCADIAN SKIES. DAY.

EFFECTS SHOT.

TINKERBELL and THE JETS APPROACH THE FORTRESS.

THE ARCADIAN FLYING MACHINES FLY up to meet them.

VALKYRIE

Okay. This is it.

Get ready.

PLAYBOY

10-4, boss.

I was born ready!

TINKERBELL

Crimson Guard.

These guys aren’t going to go down easy.

VALKYRIE

We have to face them sometime.

Might as well get it over with.

Okay. Valkyrie to all fighters.

The moment we engage, break formation and fire at will.

Remember to watch each others back.

The FLYING MACHINES REACH them.

The JETS and TINKERBELL BREAK FORMATION.

VALKYRIE’S JET CLIMBS. PLAYBOY’S JET FLIES TO THE SIDE. TINKERBELL DIVES.

9. INT. MOBILE COMMAND CENTRE CONTROL ROOM. DAY.

The CAMERA follows JACKSON into the CONTROL ROOM.

JENSEN is STOOD in the CENTRE of the ROOM. EXTRAS are using the CONSOLES that OUR MAIN CHARACTERS used in the PREVIOUS SCENES.

JENSEN

Everything go well with Tinkerbell?

JACKSON

Yeah. I think I finally got those wings back to optimum status.

JENSEN

Great. Communications?

Are we receiving the fighter group loud and clear.

FEMALE COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

Yes sir. Some interference but nothing the system can’t handle. Better than we could have expected.

JENSEN

Acknowledged. Hotshot?

I thought we were already supposed to be out of the incursion.

HOTSHOT

(radio distorted)

So did I.

But less than a minute.

JENSEN

Dave? You have a go.

CUT TO

10. INT. MOBILE COMMAND CENTRE. DAY.

DAVE is WALKING through the HANGAR BAY PAST THE COMMANDOS. The COMMANDOS are LINED up IN TWO COLUMNS WAITING FOR THE GO SIGNAL.

DAVE

Its about time.

You get that Vasily? I’m finally going to set foot on the soil of my homeland once more.

CHERNENKO

Congratulations, my friend.

But I lets save the celebrations until we’ve actually get through this day.

DAVE

Agreed. But there’s nothing that can spoil this moment for me.

CASPAR and MURRAY have REACHED THE DOORWAY to the HANGAR BAY and are NOW FOLLOWING DAVE.

CASPAR

Dave, are you ready, big man.

Time to take back your homeland from the man!

DAVE puts his head in his hands.

DAVE

I didn’t imagine that voice?

CHERNENKO SHAKES his HEAD.

DAVE starts to MASSAGE his TEMPLES. SPEAKING as if in a MANTRA.

DAVE

Nothing can spoil this moment for me,

Nothing can spoil this moment for me,

Nothing can spoil this moment for me.

MURRAY

Don’t worry, he’s not going out there with you.

Once you gain a foothold we’re to go in with the second wave and start to set up signals. So you’ll be free to take out your vengeance on as many crimson guard as you want.

DAVE

Well, keep him out of my way.

MURRAY

We’ll be taking the Timber Wolf.

I’ll be driving. He’ll completely out of your way.

CASPAR and MURRAY WALK OFF down the HANGAR BAY and INTO A SIDE ROOM.

DAVE

I swear I will kill him one of these days.

A RED LIGHT goes GREEN.

The HANGAR BAY starts to open. WIND BLOWS into the HANGAR BAY.

DAVE

(shouting over the wind)

Okay. Major Chernenko, would you like to do the honours.

CHERNENKO

Thankyou, comrade.

Okay, my friends, you know what to do.

First wave, deploy.

The COMMANDOS start to MARCH OUT. They JUMP OUT of the MCC.

CHERNENKO

After you.

DAVE

Thankyou.

Let’s find out just what the hell went on two years ago.

He RUNS out the MCC.

CHERNENKO FOLLOWS HIM.
